Aylmer Mosque Open House

Date: Saturday, February 13
Time: between 1 -- 4 pm
Place: 21 Park Street, Aylmer.

That's the old national bank building. There is parking on Park Street but not a great deal... watch out! The speed bumps are devastating there.

This is an event in order that people may ask all the questions they want about the mosque and the Muslim faith.
The Imam and bilingual volunteers will be there to help you. However shoes must be removed so wear some good socks.

Hoping lots of people take this opportunity to visit and express their appreciation for this act of generous hospitality.

Pontiac for Refugees

Hello everyone. Sorry it's been so long.

Myself and a couple of like-minded fellows have been in touch with the organizers of Wakefield for Refugees in order to learn about what we here can do to help.

They are holding a public meeting next Wednesday, January 13th at the Wakefield United Church (opposite the National Bank) starting at 7: 30 pm.

I'll be going to it and will report back here on what I found out, but if anyone else would also like to go, that'd be great.

They also have a Facebook page if you'd like to join it: lots of interesting links and insights there.

I'm also trying to organize some language lessons here through the same group: simple stuff like a few useful words/phrases and a bit of background into the culture of the Arabic-speaking nations.
I'll let you know about that too.

We might not be up to actually hosting a refugee family, but there is surely much we CAN do.

6 juin. Visite dans la municipalité de Pontiac. Une initiative du Club des ornithologues de l’Outaouais (COO).
Rendez-vous: 16h00 dans le stationnement du MAXI (intersection du boul. des Allumettières et du chemin Vanier, secteur Aylmer) et 16h30 dans le stationnement de l'Hôtel de ville de la municipalité de Pontiac (secteur Luskville), chemin de l'Hôtel-de-Ville.
Nous partirons de ce dernier point pour parcourir les magnifiques paysages au pied de l'escarpement d'Eardley tout en y observant les oiseaux de champs et de friches, de même que les rapaces qui profitent des vents ascendants de fin d’après-midi. Notre itinéraire : du chemin Eardley-Masham au chemin du Lac des Loups par le chemin Steele dans le but ultime de tenter de voir ou d’entendre les engoulevents bois-pourri au crépuscule.
Suggestion: apporter lunch, breuvage, lampe de poche et revêtir l'habillement de circonstance (pensez insectes piqueurs et tombée du jour). Fin prévue vers 20h30-21h00.

June 6. A visit to the municipality of Pontiac. An initiative of the Club des ornithologues de l’Outaouais (COO).
Meet: 4 pm in the MAXI parking lot (intersection of boul. des Allumettières and chemin Vanier, Aylmer sector) and 4:30 pm in the Town hall parking lot of Pontiac Municipality, chemin de l'Hôtel-de-Ville (Luskville sector).
We’ll start from this point and pass through beautiful scenery at the foot of the Eardley escarpment to look at birds of fields and fallow lands, as well as raptors taking advantage of late afternoon thermals (updraft winds). Our route: from chemin Eardley-Masham to chemin du Lac des Loups (Wolf Lake road) via Steele line, with the ultimate aim to see or hear Whip-poor-wills at dusk.
Suggestion: bring snack, something to drink, flashlight, and wear suitable clothes (think about biting insects and dusk). Scheduled to end at about 8:30 to 9 pm.

Une proposition du Club des ornithologues de l’Outaouais (COO). Circuits entre Quyon et Norway Bay (et peut-être plus à l’ouest). Observation de la migration printanière et des nouveaux arrivants dans les décors du Pontiac : rivière des Outaouais, champs, marais, boisés.

Rendez-vous: 6h30 à Gatineau (point de rencontre à déterminer) pour organiser un covoiturage OU 7h45 au quai du traversier de Quyon. Merci de contacter un des responsables à l’avance. Durée : l’avant-midi. Possibilité de diner ensemble à Norway Bay et d’effectuer d’autres arrêts au retour vers Gatineau. Cette activité peut se dérouler autant en français qu’en anglais.

Birding trip in the Pontiac.

An outing of the Club des ornithologues de l’Outaouais (COO). Between Quyon and Norway Bay (and maybe further west). Observe the spring migration and new arrivals in various Pontiac habitats: Ottawa river, fields, marshes, woodlands.

Meet: 6h30 am in Gatineau (meeting spot to be determined) to organize car pooling OR 7h45 am at the ferry dock in Quyon.

Please contact one of the hosts in advance. Duration: the morning. Possibility to have lunch together in Norway Bay and to make other stops on the way back to Gatineau. Dans les magnifiques décors que parcourent les sentiers de Bristol, c’est avant tout une sortie en ski de fond qui est prévue, mais nous sommes prêts à répondre aux préférences des participants (au besoin, des raquettes seront disponibles sur place).

Comment by Mo: This is only for costs. Our Police and garbage costs are high, (large area, low population) and we have slightly more employees per 100 residents than average. On the other hand should we be proud that we spend little on Loisirs et culture (includes hockey, soccer, libraries)? ($43 per resident vs. $303 per resident in Gatineau, or $102 in Shawville)? Perhaps value for money should be the criterion.

C’est un rendez-vous le 9 septembre 2014 de 13h00 à 15h00 à la bibliothèque située au 2024 chemin 148, Pontiac (Luskville);

Café et biscuits seront offerts sur place! Les frais de gardiennage peuvent être remboursés sur demande et du transport est aussi offert aux personnes dans le besoin.

Des Collines Seniors’ Roundtable resumes its monthly Coffee get- together for caregivers of elderly persons in five municipalities of the territory. A great opportunity to have a little respite and to share with other caregivers!

You are welcome to attend on

September 9, 2014 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the library located at 2024 Route 148, Pontiac (Luskville);

Coffee and cookies will be served! We offer transportation for participants in need and we also reimburse caretaking fees. Please make the request during registration.
